The healthy recipe for anti-aging
When we reach a ‘ripe’ old age of 40 and above, most of us do not want people to know our birthdays. But every year ‘birthdays’ happen, unless we hide it and not celebrate it publicly so our friends will not know. However, looking older is optional. But how do we take years off without hiding our hands in a safe place (that is in the pockets)?
The secret recipe for defying age is to think beyond wrinkles. We must not forget our other body parts that are continuously being subjected to wear and tear. And it includes everything from the color of our hair to the suppleness of our feet.
So logically, we should address our problems from head to toe. It helps to remember that signs of aging boils down to this: changes in texture and color. The thickness and richness of our hair begins to thin and fade; our baby skin that was soft and smooth grows wrinkled and flabby.
So, let us see how we can best combat those undeniable signs and at least compensate for those (ugly for some of us) changes. Of course, the best way is to start eating healthy, exercise regularly and destress. There are also other ways that can help us in our quest for a ‘younger, healthier’ look.
Hair
Our hair says it all for us. Whatever color our hair is, the whites says it all. Years of unhealthy choices of living our lives, including bad eating habits, stress and lack of exercise can dampen our immune system. Thus, the onslaught of white hair at an incredibly fast rate. But all is not lost because we can consider hair coloring and other treatments to give us luscious looking hair. Hair coloring and hair spa can create an instant change to anyone’s look. However, it is a great idea to do our homework before we color. What does this mean? Simply, it means being perfectly honest to ourselves about what shades of color suits us best. There are so many products in the market that enables us to even color our hair in the comfort of our own home.
Teeth
We don’t have to say much because our teeth (not so white and pearly anymore) will tell our age. Years of eating and drinking beverages like tea and coffee can leave our teeth yellow. Smoking is another culprit. Do you know that size and shape also matters. Young looking teeth are vibrant, with clean, rounded edges, according to a cosmetic dentist. Old looking ones are the exact opposite as they look small, worn out and chipped. In addition, our gums may recede over time, and leave us with gaps between our teeth.
So how do we reverse the clock? Again there are products in the market that can help us achieve our goal. An example is peroxide-based whiteners. They deep-clean and brightens our teeth. We can go to the dentists and get treatments which will give us amazing and striking results in just one day. If teeth are worn out, we can ask our dentists for a bite guard. It’s to prevent too much grinding thus chipping away our teeth. To correct tiny or damaged teeth, we can consider crowning or veneers, and recontouring.
Face and neck
Our face and neck have suffered environmental damage from the sun, wind and pollution. They look spotted, wrinkled and droop. What do we do? It sounds simple but it goes a long way to give us a firmer, younger looking face. Start using moisturizer and wrinkle concealer, etc. Apply creams with antioxidants like vitamins A and C and of course not forgetting using broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
Dermatologists can also prescribe a combination of chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser treatments to reduce age spots and firm sagging skin. Botox injections can also help to improve the look of a turkey neck.
