Eat Smart for your heart – week 2
Posted by Guest Author in Arts
This past Monday was two weeks since I started the new plant based diet in an effort to arrest and possibly even reverse some of the damage that has been done to my heart over the years. Sadly for years I overate consistently which resulted in my being over weight and carrying an unhealthy amount of body fat around my middle which has been proven to contribute to heart disease. I also smoke which was incredibly stupid but you do things when you are young thinking that you will stop them when you get older and somehow that just never happened.
At any rate, there is a problem with my heart for which there is no surgical cure and as a result, I have been forced to look at other ways to possibly correct the problem. I found this diet and embarked upon it two weeks ago.
So far the results have been tremendous. I have lost 10lbs, the weight loss has plateaued however and I am anxious to see if it will start to drop again as I continue. The remarkable thing however is that have had virtually no angina pain since the second day of the program. I am astounded at this because before, I could barely make it a couple of hours without taking a nitro tablet.
Suffice it to say that, at least to that extent, it is working well for me and appears to be doing effectively what I want it to do. That said, I am committed to continuation of the program to see just how far it can take me in the improvement of my overall health.
The real challenge for me however, seems to be becoming more and more the quest to come up with new and exciting things to eat. After all, elimination of all fat from your diet, really does reduce your options to a great extent.
I have begun to make myself a fresh fruit smoothie for breakfast, and usually eat either a baked sweet potato or just a baked potato for lunch. Which leaves me satisfied, yet fairly hungry by the time dinner rolls around. Dinner is the challenge. I have come up with vegetarian nachos which are very good but one can’t eat Nachos everyday. I have have had many meals of fresh vegetables which are delicious but can become rather mundane if done too often. There is always pasta with Marinara sauce and last weekend I even grilled a large chunk of pineapple and ate it in a bun like a hamburger. I grilled my girl friend a real hamburger at the same time and the pineapple took on the smoky flavor. Legit Online Jobs was delicious. I put some steak sauce on the bun and it had sort of a sweet and sour flavor.
I guess at the end of the day, it boils down to this. I want to live and to continue to improve on my health. Therefore, I really have no choice but to look into new ways to satisfy my hunger.
Tonight, I am thinking of trying a “cheeseless” pizza with red sauce and pineapple. Obviously, it will have to be homemade. I don’t really think I could get that from Domino’s. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
